Liver Allocations

81 House lawmakers are throwing their support behind changes to the liver allocation system partly after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and other rural lawmakers pushed back against the changes.

The group asked HHS Secretary Alex Azar to support the new system, meant to favor people in greater need of an organ over people who live near transplant centers. They cautioned that lawmakers opposed to the changes have historically benefits from it.

The federal liver system is being adjusted in a way to help people in populous regions of the country, Alex Ruoff has reported.
